Free Dementia Support for North and South Molton

The Dementia Support Trust aims to enrich and empower those living with dementia through supporting them with activities of daily living such as finding a recipe, buying the ingredients and baking together. We come in not as a carer but as a friend or neighbour who pops in once or twice a week for a natter, a catch up and to support with reengaging in hobbies and interests which is always led by the individual.

Those that we support have enjoyed crafts, board games, baking, going for walks and trips out, rummage boxes filled with past memorabilia to start up conversations and bring back happy memories, painting and much more.

How we can help

    • To empower and motivate those living with dementia to maintain hobbies and interests

    • Bring reminiscing tools to your home to share life experiences, memories and stories from the past

    • Deliver meaningful activities and enrichment

    • Assisting with the preparation of home cooked meals and drinks

    • Provide expert advice, information and signposting to local services

    • Help with filling in benefit claim forms as these can have medical jargon and be lengthy

Group Sessions

  • We offer an activity and craft group session Wednesdays at the South Molton Library 9:30 - 12:00

  • The group is of no more than 4 people and loved ones are able to stay if they like, are welcome to leave and have some respite or go for coffee with other carers.

  • This session is very popular so please contact us if you'd like to attend, we are currently looking in to running a second session on Tuesdays and will update our website and announce it on facebook when this is available.

How we can support relatives

Sometimes relatives who are caring for someone living with dementia also need respite to have a break and this can provide:

  • A chance to spend time with other friends and family, or to just wind down

  • Time to take care of errands such as shopping, exercising, getting a haircut or going to the doctors

  • Comfort and peace of mind knowing that the person living with dementia is spending time with another caring individual

How the Charity Supports the community

  • Practical and emotional support to families of the loved one living with dementia.

  • Take referrals from local care providers e.g. GP surgeries, hospitals and in home care.

  • The trust provides dementia awareness by offering free training and support services

All our services are free to the community.

We have our own liability insurance and are DBS checked.
